FOCUS

The story of Jesus and Zacchaeus in the Bible is beyond what our Sunday School teachers teach on restitution. It has numerous lessons. But, the one I love to open our eyes to is the focus of Zacchaeus. Focus has to do with channeling your energy on achieving your goal in the midst of distractions. This was what Zacchaeus did.

The neighbourhood learnt about the coming of Jesus to town, and they prepared to see him. Zacchaeus also desired to view the man Jesus, but he was a man of small stature. He was determined to see Jesus and the only option he had was to climb a tree that would afford him that. He didn’t mind his profession, environment, neighbours and his stature. One thing was his FOCUS – to climb the sycamore tree in order to see Jesus.

We just have to learn from this. We need to have FOCUS. There is a place we are going to, there is a person we want to befriend, there is an height we want to reach. All these and other lofty targets in our lives cannot be attained if we lose focus. We need to do away with distractions and focus on that thing we are aiming at to bring us greatness and achievements.

Sometimes, we have to neglect conventional situations that may mar our goals, and do that is necessary, which may look absurd to people. The main thing is that success is achieved without compromise.

Jesus eventually saw Zacchaeus on the tree, called out to him and feasted in his house. Life is ready to write your own story too and accord you with laurels of glory, if only you will do one thing – focus on winning. People will raise eyebrow as they did, when Jesus visited Zacchaeus. They reminded Jesus that his host was a tax collector, which by Jewish standard, was a chronic sinner who used force in the line of duty. But, Jesus never minded them because he was impressed by his character of a champion, and right there, he became a man of history we are learning from today.

Your own stature might be poverty, illiteracy, background, just to mention a few. All these may slow you down, but they can’t stop you if you focus on where you are going, and not where you are. The game is up to you. Stand up and fight to get what you desire. Just focus on it, and give all it takes to get it done.
