While still at noonday,
When infants have no say;
Our leaked roof:
The evidence of our goof
With hearts rent,
Under the tattered tent
The elders set to merry and feast,
When kids on errand to kill the beast.

Slaves are forced to serve, while servants choose to serve. It’s better to choose to serve than being forced to serve. Life nourishes those who choose to serve willingly.

Digital Media Talk with Elsie Godwin was a grand experience that gathered both established and upcoming bloggers together on Thursday, 27th September, 2018 at BWc Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
The speakers/panelists/moderators at the occasion did justice to the theme – Blogging as a tool for social change. The like of Tosyn Bucknor, Laila Ijeoma, Princess Uvbi, Dr. Oyinwande Dipeolu, Tiwa Olanubi, Jide Adeyemi, Segun T. Awosanya and other distinguished media celebrities were able to affirm that our society would be a beautiful place to live in, if blogging and other social media platforms were used wisely.
There were other spices from different media firms such as @plaqad and @misterboboskie that came to speak on how to leverage on social media as the concept for personal and social fulfilment.
The height of the whole show was when Segun T. Awosanya, the convener of #EndSars, said that for the bloggers and other social media influencers to make a landmark success in their career, the story they want to tell must be short, unprecedented, credible, concrete, empathetic, simple and (narrative to) share.
It was a life time experience as ideas were shared, contacts exchanged, and frienships built,

as all these activities and other were initiated as means of building a viable social life.
My father came back late last night. He was tired, pale in his white shirt and black trousers, as he went straight to have his bath. When he came back to join me in the balcony, I could see that his face was wrinkled with accumulated stress.
He wanted to say something but he held it back. When he looked at me, I knew his wry smile was demanding the attention of my brother. My father would always like my brother to be with him whenever he came back from customers. He would say their complaints should be treated fairly, and that he was concerned as the chairman of the company.
I spoke instead, “Akin is busy, dad.”
“He can’t be busy when I’m here,” my father was furious, as he removed his spectacles, and wiped his forehead with his left palm.
“He’s actually balancing the account of the stock for the year.” I said.
There was a perplexing silence, then he broke it. “Our customers want another MD.”
“That’s not possible!” My father and I looked in the direction of the door where Akin’s voice came from.
He was standing with his usual graceful poise and a stack of files in his left hand. His Ralph Lauren polo on Blue Jeans was sparkling. He moved closer and dropped the files on the railings, and talked, “You can’t let this happen, dad. I’m doing fine. Besides that, I still have a lot to offer. There are pending projects I need to wrap up…”
“The people have spoken, Akin. They want someone else.”
“But, people know that he’s industrious and intelligent. They can’t do that to him…” I spoke as I removed my glasses from my eyes.
“I know my people…” Akin said.
“But, you don’t know the voices behind the people you claim to know,” my father said as he wore his spectacles. “The voices of the people are more powerful than the people themselves. They could greet in the morning, and cough in the evening. But, you wouldn’t know they are sending signals.”
“But, this is unfair.” My brother groaned.
“That’s why it’s good that when you work, also listen to different messages of the voices.” My father stood up to leave.
“Now, I have learnt my lesson, I will be attentive to…”
“I’m afraid it’s too late, your brother will continue from where you are, just round off,” my father said to our bewilderment as he strolled to the sitting room. “Jide will be the next MD.”
Then, I have been thinking about the voices. It’s something to consider when one deals with people. Have those voices actually spoken or murmured or grumbled? Or, is it the most commanding voice that has

asked my brother to stop?
May Nigeria – the most populous black nation on the planet earth, be truly and enormously independen

t as her people celebrate 58th Independence Anniversary today, October 1, 2018.
Though, we still fault the frameworks of our colonial lords that instituted Nigeria as a people in January 1, 1914, and continually blame them as well for the Independence we got in October 1, 1960, yet I congratulate this great nation for standing as one against the mischiefs being suffered in the hands of our present crop of political gladiators.
I commend the true Nigerians, who tirelessly hustle to make ends meet, not those who cut corners, and pretend to parade themselves as representatives to suck our treasuries dry.
My congratulatory messages are for the Nigerian citizens who are reverently available “to serve our Fatherland, with love and strength and faith,” not those who are possessed with evil to overturn the political ideologies of our founding fathers for their personal gains and merriment.
To those who still honour the beauty of our diversity, and strive to protect it as our common identity, they are the true citizens I cheer, because they are truly independent. To many lives sacrificed for the cause of the survival of this nation, you were and are heroes!
Not to those who run helter skelter in scheming to worsen the ailmements of this country, but to the ones who sweat to fix her deficiencies, I say Happy Independence. They are the ones that should be esteemed.
To all Nigerians, home and abroad, who still believe that our dear country is a prospective prosperous nation in its totality, and continue to give all it takes to make her great again, may we live in true liberty which the enemies of our nation would see and make them turn away from their selfish interests, and embrace the noble services offered by our nation, Nigeria.
May we all be truly independent once again!
